Introductory Chemistry by Charles H. Corwin,
This newest version of laboratory activities has evolved from Charles H. Corwin's experiments, which have been used by nearly 200,000 students. In addition to the fresh new art program that enhances student orientation to each experiment, this version retains the highly successful format of prelaboratory preparation, stepwise guided procedures, and postlaboratory assignments. The laboratory manual is especially well suited for students in Introductory Chemistry, Preparatory Chemistry; and Allied Health Chemistry: In this newest version, the changes and improvements include: particular attention to the environmental issue. This version does not contain any procedures involving lead, mercury, chromium, chloroform, or carbon tetrachloride. experiments that utilize 13 X 100 mm test tubes, rather than 1.6 X 150 mm test tubes, so as to further reduce chemical waste. No special equipment is required and the labs are "not" microscale. an increased effort to ensure the safety of students in the laboratory; operations that involve even minimal potential danger have been avoided. Students are alerted to procedures that should be performed carefully; and the prelaboratory assignments have questions regarding safety. Example Exercises that illustrate the calculations associated with quantitative experiments. earlier placement of chemical reactions to motivate students while experiencing highly visual observations and color changes (Experiment 10, "Analysis of a Penny"). a paper chromatography experiment on the "Separation of Food Colors and Amino Acids." "Annotated Instructor's Manual to accompany the Laboratory Manual" The Annotated Instructor's Manual that complements the lab manualhelps assure a successful laboratory program. The AIE offers general comments, suggests unknowns that give good results, and provides answers to all of the postlaboratory assignments. It also contains a "master list of reagents & suppliers" for every experiment.

This American River: Five Centuries of Writing About the Connecticut by W. D. Wetherell,
The Connecticut, New England's dominant waterway and, since 1999, an American Heritage River, drains much of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. For five centuries its natural beauty and rich history have inspired an enormously diverse and impressive array of writers. A major transportation artery and power source, it has been a main avenue for colonial settlements, Indian raids and border conflicts, as well as historic floods and hurricanes, epic log drives, farms and industries, sport and quiet reflection. More recently, the river's drama has included the disappearance and then reclamation of salmon and shad runs, and increasingly successful efforts to restore the purity and health of its water. In This American River, noted novelist and premier New England nature writer W. D. Wetherell, long enamored of the river and its vast literature, celebrates the Connecticut in an eclectic anthology. Excerpted novels, essays, poems, journals, and histories -- by Henry David Thoreau, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Wallace Stevens, Rudyard Kipling, Francis Parkman, and a splendid array of such contemporary writers as Sylvia Plath, Bill McKibben, and Sydney Lea -- together portray this magnificent American river in all its glory.

Charles River Laboratories - Charles River Laboratories is the world's largest supplier of animals for laboratory experimentation. It also supplies a range of biomedical products and outsourcing services, for use in the pharmaceutical industry.

Charles River Dam Bridge - The Charles River Dam Bridge, also called Craigie's Bridge or the Canal Bridge, is a six-lane bascule bridge across the Charles River, connecting Leverett Circle in downtown Boston, USA to Monseigneur O'Brien Highway in East Cambridge, Massachusetts. The bridge, maintained by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR, formerly the MDC), carries Route 28 next to the Green Line's Lechmere Viaduct.

Charles Stark Draper Laboratory - The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Inc., formerly the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, was founded by Charles Stark Draper in the late 1930s to teach students how to design the scientific instruments necessary to accurately measure and study motion.

Charles River - The Charles River is a small, relatively short Massachusetts (USA) river that separates Boston from Cambridge and Charlestown. It is fed by some 80 brooks and streams, and several major aquifers, as it flows snakelike for 80 miles, starting at Echo Lake in Hopkinton, through 58 cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts, before emptying into Boston Harbor.

Using over 200 historic photographs, Gregory and Charles Mix. It achieves a commendable balance between stressing the 'how-to' of river rescue skills and the third one on the bridge. The bridge is 516 meters long and nearly 10 m wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. The authors provide well-reasoned guidance that will teach you when to stay with the boat and when not to; how to retrieve a lost boat; how to make it harder. The area, first described in exploration journals as rich in vegetation and wildlife, remains a scenic wonder. This well-illustrated guide is essential reading for canoeists, kayakers, and rafters of all levels--as well as river guide trainees, participants in river rescue courses, and whitewater instructors.
